Marche Wine Tour 2022

On 6, 7 and 8 April, a tour organised in cooperation with Eat & Drink Marche and correspondents from Toronto was held in the Marche region.

The organisation was made possible thanks to the invaluable work of key people from the Marche region in connection with many of the area's wineries, Giuseppe Cristini, sommelier and president of the Truffle in the World Association, and Marco Marani, a chef from Fabriano who has been emigrating to the metropolis Toronto for more than a decade.

The interest shown by importers and buyers from the province of Ontario (Canada) was welcomed with an air of freshness and novelty by the manufacturers, who joined the programme and hosted the exponents for tastings, lunches, and dinners.

The aim is to create a connection between the country overseas and the region of central Italy, which is as beautiful and rich in quality as it is still little known when compared to what it offers.

The itinerary featured the Piceno, Ancona and Macerata areas, where sunny days favoured visits to the vineyards and beyond.

On the first day, 6 April, the importers were welcomed after their tiring journey and taken to an accommodation in the province of Ascoli Piceno, where a delicious dinner with wines and specialities of the area accompanied their first night's rest.

The next morning, 7 April, the alarm clock rang early, and the Tour programme came into full swing.

PECORINO, PASSERINA and ROSSO PICENO AREA (DOC and DOCG)

"La Cantina dei Colli Ripani" opened the dances, narrating the history, production, trade, and quality of the company and its products. This was followed by a tasting of several types of wine, both white and red.

After a satisfying first stop, the next stop was the 'Villa Pigna' winery, which, with kind hospitality, made itself available to offer lunch, and tasting, of course.

In the afternoon, 'Azienda Vinicola Carassanese', the leading wine producer in the Marche region by hectolitres, showed their vineyards and praised their wines.

The first day ended with a spectacular dinner at the 'Vini Centanni' winery, which involved a chef who sublimated the wines tasted with specific dishes.

VERDICCHIO DI MATELICA AREA (DOC AND DOCG) and IGT RED WINES

The next day, 'Vini Gagliardi', province of Macerata, took us on a tour of its vineyards in a hilly, airy area, accompanied us on a tour of the cellar and showed us the range of wines. The tasting that followed was much appreciated.

"Borgo Paglianetto' was the second stop on the morning of 8 April. With great professionalism, the sales manager made herself available for questions relating to the cognitive needs of those interested, and led them into the tasting room afterwards.

VERDICCHIO DEI CASTELLI DI JESI (DOC and DOCG), WHITE AND RED WINES

"Finocchi Viticoltori" hosted us for lunch, pairing their wines with the famous vincisgrassi and porchetta.

ROSSO CONERO (DOC e DOCG) e BIANCHI IGT WINES

Arriving now in the afternoon hours, "Silvano Strologo" did not hesitate to uncork his best bottles, including two magnums, to surprise the guests with the best varieties of Rosso Conero.

ROSSO PICENO, PECORINO e PASSERINA

"Luci di Mezzo," a very recent farm with a futuristic structure and design, contributed to an excellent closing of the Marche Wine Tour. Dinner with fine wines, displayed on pedestals as one does with works of art, and courses with produce grown directly by the winery itself.

The stay in Le Marche was, according to those involved, greatly appreciated for hospitality, human warmth, as well as products and territory.

The testimony of these exponents demonstrates how the potential of the Marche region is vast and how pouring into foreign channels can be an excellent ploy to create connections with markets other than our own, but that embrace the culture and offerings, in this case, of Marche's enology.

One of the strengths to highlight of this fine experience is the informality and friendly, cordial approach with which organizers and business owners interfaced.

We believe that the human component is critical to openness to solid, long-term partnerships.

This for Eat & Drink Marche is just a step, the crossroads for opening the doors to foreign markets and aiming to channel the interest of food and wine industry insiders, buyers on the one hand, and suppliers on the other.
